Mantis: How It Works

The Mantis system consists of three components:

  • Mantis Data Entry: Your mobile staff uses smartphones or handhelds or web entry to collect data in the field, upload or save the data collected to the central database and download or view current task assignments and updates.
  • Central Database: The central database stores all data and allows it to be shared by head office and mobile staff. The database can be hosted by Metaworks, a third party or your organization.
  • Mantis Management System: The online management system allows head office to access and approve the data uploaded by mobile staff, create reports, administer the system, cleanse results, and make updates, all via a secure web interface.

Mantis Data Entry:

The handheld or smartphone component gives your mobile staff the ability to remotely connect to the central database and download current task assignments, account information, and product updates. As field data is collected, it can immediately be transmitted back to the central database, making it available to head office in near-time.

Mantis Data Entry:
Web Entry


The web entry component gives the ability for your field staff to view and print off their survey sheets, enter the data economically and save it to the same database as your handhelds / smartphones. Your field reps can select their survey, enter their results, attach photos & signatures and mark complete. Optionally, management can allow them to view read-only reports generated from their work.

Central Database


The central database links the reps and head office. Once a rep synchronizes, the data collected from each account, along with any notes, photos, and customer contacts is uploaded to the central database, ensuring that collected data will not be lost. At the same time any new tasks, surveys, and account information is downloaded to the rep. Managers can access the central database at any time via the Mantis management system.

Mantis Management System


The web-enabled Management System is used by head office to access all account information stored in the central database. Your management team receives up-to-the-minute ground level account and competitor intelligence. The built-in report writer allows data to be easily analyzed and exported, without involving technical resources. Assign tasks and stay informed, while freeing your field force from repetitive paperwork and the necessity of traveling to head office every time there's an update.
